ProPublica is an independent, nonprofit newsroom that produces investigative journalism in the public interest.

Responsibilities

• Hire and oversee four staff investigative reporters and a fellow based in California
• Supervise reporters on revelatory and important investigative projects
• Provide guidance to ensure projects are conceived and told ambitiously and creatively
• Work with reporters to select high-impact stories and overcome reporting hurdles
• Edit stories to fix structural and logical issues and elevate writing
• Collaborate with researchers, data visualization, engagement, and visual staffers
• Serve as a champion for accountability journalism

Requirements

• At least five years of experience managing or leading complex investigations
• Previous experience leading a team, office, bureau, or newsroom
• Proven ability to foster a culture of inclusion and execute a vision
• Strong organizational skills and ability to juggle multiple projects
• Ability to meet deadlines and handle pressure
• Creative editing range for various investigative formats (narrative, multimedia, etc.)
• Commitment to diversity in story topics, sources, and team empowerment
• Knowledge of California
• Ability to travel as needed
• Eligibility to work in the U.S.
