Senior Editor, Accountability and Investigations

Responsibilities

• Conceive and edit ambitious investigative journalism focusing on powerful institutions and businesses
• Manage and inspire a team of reporters
• Set the investigative agenda to fulfill the mission of serving all New Yorkers
• Manage long-term projects involving multiple reporters, external partners, and complex datasets
• Drive accountability angles for daily stories under competitive pressure
• Ensure investigations are narratively engaging and crystal clear
• Build a steady flow of investigative leads through public records and source cultivation
• Bulletproof work through precision editing, fact-checking, and legal liaison
• Implement innovative investigative reporting practices

Requirements

• 10+ years in journalism
• 5+ years editing investigations
• Proven track record of holding powerful entities to account
• Experience with investigative methods including information requests and data analysis
• Impeccable journalistic judgment and ability to work under pressure
• Strong mentoring and collaborative skills
• Ability to multitask between lead generation and final proofing
