About the role

Responsibilities

  • Lead analytical work covering China and East Asia to provide diagnostics and advisory services that remove market barriers and mobilize private investments.
  • Contribute to business development by providing investment and advisory teams with customized research, including country economic updates and sectoral analysis.
  • Provide timely input to IFC investment projects regarding macro/market analysis, policy issues, and strategic risks.
  • Lead the preparation of Country Private Sector Diagnostics (CPSDs) and coordinate with regional and industry colleagues.
  • Act as a focal point for WBG coordination, co-leading the preparation of country engagement products like CPFs and CCDRs.
  • Provide front-office support to regional leadership, including preparing briefing materials and talking points for key events.
  • Mentor junior colleagues and ensure quality control of strategic and analytical work.

Requirements

  • PhD or master's degree in economics.
  • At least 12 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Proven track record of excellence in research and analytics, including published research.
  • Expertise in both macro- and micro-level issues, specifically regarding private sector policies and market analysis.
  • Strong writing and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex analysis into actionable strategies.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to lead teams and manage stakeholder relationships.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Deep expertise in the Chinese economy and specific thematic areas such as private sector regulation or climate policy.
  • Experience with economic models, financial models, or advanced econometrics.
  • Previous experience with WBG analytical products such as CPFs, CPSDs, or CCDRs.
  • Experience in policy dialogue and lending operations.
