Senior Director of Software Engineering

Responsibilities

• Define and own the delivery strategy and roadmap for large-scale, cross-team engineering programmes
• Partner with Principal Engineers and Architecture leads to translate technical vision into actionable delivery plans
• Lead delivery through periods of organisational or technical change, including platform migrations and team restructures
• Accountable for quality and production stability, including test automation, performance benchmarking, and incident management
• Establish and refine delivery frameworks, governance models, and reporting cadences
• Mentor and develop technical managers and delivery leads to build a strong leadership pipeline
• Set and scale multi-department strategy for agentic AI-enabled engineering and SDLC automation
• Drive continuous improvement in engineering delivery practices through metrics and process optimisation

Requirements

• 10+ years of leadership in end-to-end technical project/programme delivery
• Approximately 20 years of total professional experience with 5+ years at Director level
• Proven track record of delivering complex, multi-team programmes at scale
• Technical fluency across the full stack including API design (REST, gRPC, GraphQL), AWS (EKS, serverless, IAM), CI/CD, Kubernetes, and Kafka
• Ability to critically assess architecture diagrams and evaluate architectural trade-offs
• Proficiency in modern delivery methodologies such as Agile, Scrum, and Kanban
• Experience leading multi-organisation adoption of agentic AI-enabled engineering operating models
• Deep understanding of responsible AI risk, controls, and security expectations at scale
• Exceptional communication skills with the ability to distil engineering complexity for non-technical stakeholders
