Senior Director of Observability Engineering

Responsibilities

• Own and execute Nike’s global observability strategy from India, covering metrics, logs, traces, and operational intelligence.
• Lead the design, deployment, and continuous evolution of enterprise observability platforms supporting thousands of services.
• Establish engineering standards, reference architectures, and best practices for instrumentation and telemetry pipelines.
• Drive global adoption of modern observability practices, including OpenTelemetry (OTel) instrumentation.
• Provide senior leadership oversight for incident management and operational excellence using PagerDuty, ServiceNow, and AIOps.
• Partner with global Platform Engineering, SRE, Cloud Infrastructure, and Product Engineering leaders.
• Lead a large, globally distributed organization of engineering managers and principal engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field.
• 15+ years of experience in software or platform engineering, including senior leadership of enterprise-scale observability.
• Proven track record of building and leading large global engineering teams from India.
• Extensive experience operating Splunk, New Relic, and Grafana LGTM stacks at scale.
• Deep understanding of observability principles across Metrics, Logs, and Traces (MLT).
• Strong background in cloud-native architectures, Kubernetes, and microservices.
• Experience leading incident management workflows with PagerDuty, ServiceNow, and AIOps tools.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced degree in software engineering.
• Deep expertise with the OpenTelemetry (OTel) ecosystem, including collectors and exporters.
• Experience implementing SRE practices, including SLIs/SLOs and error budgets.
