Senior Director, Developer Ecosystem

Responsibilities

• Own and drive IonQ's end-to-end developer ecosystem strategy, including community engagement, open-source contributions, and developer experience.
• Lead open-source governance and engage with standards bodies and foundations to shape quantum software infrastructure.
• Drive the IonQ developer tools roadmap, overseeing the strategy and distribution of APIs, SDKs, and other essential tooling.
• Set the quality bar for world-class documentation, learning tools, and technical education content for practitioners and enterprises.
• Own key adoption and usage metrics, including platform usage, community growth, and developer API/SDK adoption.
• Build and lead a multi-disciplinary organization of high-leverage contributors across DevRel, Education, and Engineering.

Requirements

• 12+ years of experience in developer relations, developer ecosystem strategy, open-source community leadership, or technical product management.
• Proven track record of building and scaling developer communities, ideally at the intersection of hardware and software platforms.
• Deep experience in open-source strategy and governance.
• Experience building and leading multi-disciplinary teams.
• Strong technical fluency with the ability to engage credibly with researchers, compiler engineers, and application developers.
• Demonstrated ability to drive a developer experience roadmap with measurable outcomes tied to adoption and conversion.
• Exceptional communication and negotiation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Direct experience as a key maintainer or leader for a quantum computing developer ecosystem (e.g., Qiskit, Cirq, PennyLane).
• Familiarity with the quantum computing landscape, including NISQ-era tooling and fault-tolerant quantum computing requirements.
• An established network of relationships across the quantum hardware, software, and open-source ecosystem.
• Experience working with government funding agencies such as DOE, DARPA, or NSF.
• Background in leading major projects within a software foundation or industry consortium.
