Senior Director, AML & Sanctions, Governance & Policy

Responsibilities

• Lead the global AML, sanctions, governance, and policy framework across Airwallex’s FCC program
• Define risk appetite, enterprise risk assessment methodology, and governance structures that support scalable growth
• Partner with Product, Data Science, and Engineering to embed risk-based controls into the platform
• Produce clear executive and board-level reporting on financial crime risk, issues, and escalations
• Oversee regulatory examination defense, audit readiness, and disclosure governance
• Build and lead a high-performing global second line team across policy, risk, and governance

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Law, Finance, Business, or a related analytical field
• CAMS certification or equivalent globally recognized compliance credential
• 12-15+ years of experience in AML, sanctions, or financial crime compliance
• 5+ years leading global compliance policy, governance, or risk methodology at a senior level
• Experience designing enterprise-wide risk assessment frameworks and centralized global policies
• Experience leading regulatory examination defense and high-stakes audit responses
• Strong written communication, stakeholder management, and executive influence skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced degree such as JD, LLM, or a master’s in compliance or financial crime
• Additional certifications such as CAMS-Audit, CGSS, or CAMS-RM
• Deep fintech, payments, or cross-border financial services experience
• Experience hardcoding policy thresholds into automated monitoring, screening, or onboarding workflows
• Strong data literacy and experience with GRC systems, dashboards, and compliance automation
