Senior Development Engineer

Responsibilities

• Develop and industrialize premium optical fiber manufacturing processes using the scientific method.
• Identify and resolve cost, capacity, and capability limitations to drive manufacturing performance.
• Improve yield, process rate, machine utilization, quality, sustainability, and energy efficiency.
• Translate early development successes into large-scale, industrialized manufacturing processes.
• Analyze experimental data and communicate conclusions to stakeholders.
• Troubleshoot existing production problems for established products or processes.
• Direct the day-to-day activities of technicians or junior engineers for specific project work.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, materials science, ceramic engineering, glass science, or a similar discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of engineering experience using the scientific method to solve complex problems.
• Working knowledge of physical phenomena, including heat and mass transfer.
• Experience with chemical transport and reaction processes.
• Experience with high-temperature processing and/or the sintering of oxides.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced degree in chemical engineering, materials science, or a related field.
• Experience building mathematical models to inform engineering experimentation.
• Experience with vapor deposition of silica-based material systems (PCVD, IVD, or MCVD).
• Proficiency with data processing software (e.g., Python, PowerBI) or modeling simulation software (e.g., Aspen, Matlab, Fluent).
• Experience designing or manufacturing novel waveguides via refractive index profile optimization.
• Experience leading matrixed project teams.
