About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide front-line technical support to faculty, staff, and students across Windows, macOS, and Linux environments.
- Troubleshoot complex hardware, software, connectivity, printing, and peripheral issues.
- Manage the deployment, imaging, and lifecycle of computer hardware and peripherals.
- Coordinate network port activations and VLAN assignments.
- Administer helpdesk ticketing systems, including generating reports and dashboards.
- Facilitate IT onboarding for new hires and provide training on productivity tools like Google Workspace and Microsoft 365.
- Support audiovisual systems in conference rooms and classrooms.
- Act as a local contact for IT security incidents and proactively apply security patches.
- Maintain technical documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a technical field (Engineering, Science, or Technology) or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience administering Windows (Active Directory), macOS, and Linux systems.
- Proven experience supporting macOS in an enterprise environment.
- Experience managing helpdesk ticketing systems and hardware lifecycles.
- Strong knowledge of security fundamentals, including patching, encryption, and firewalls.
- Deep understanding of TCP/IP protocols and network troubleshooting.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in writing or editing command-line shell scripts (Bash, Python).
- Experience with Microsoft Active Directory and Group Policy Objects (GPOs).
- Experience using desktop management tools to administer large-scale endpoint populations.
- Familiarity with configuring Network Attached Storage (NAS) and enterprise backup solutions.
- Experience working within research or academic environments.
