Senior Design Specialist - Firewall & Wireless Packet Core

Responsibilities

• Lead architectural design for security infrastructure protecting the Wireless Core Network, focusing on carrier-grade firewalls across 4G EPC and 5G Service-Based Architecture (SBA).
• Architect, deploy, and scale high-availability firewall solutions in containerized environments using RedHat OpenShift.
• Ensure firewall architectures adhere to 3GPP and GSMA standards through proactive threat modeling and risk assessments.
• Partner with RAN, Transport, and Virtualized Infrastructure teams to align firewall policies with Wireless Core network functions.
• Develop CI/CD pipelines for firewall configuration deployment and create detailed Methods of Procedure (MoP) documents.
• Analyze network performance and resolve complex security issues using protocol validation tools like Wireshark.

Requirements

• 10+ years of progressive experience in core network security and telecom engineering in carrier-grade environments.
• Expert-level experience with Juniper SRX and Palo Alto Networks firewalls (bare metal and virtual).
• Strong technical knowledge of 3G/4G/5G Packet Core topology and Service-Based Architecture (SBA).
• Deep understanding of mobile core protocols including GTP, HTTP/2, Diameter, and SCTP.
• Proficiency in containerization ecosystems such as Docker, Kubernetes, or RedHat OpenShift.
• Experience with CI/CD automation pipelines and GitLab.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in a STEM field (Computer Science, IT, or Electrical Engineering).

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional security certifications such as JNCIE-SEC or PCNSE.
• Experience securing infrastructure within Public Cloud Native environments like AWS or GCP.
• Programming skills in Python, Ansible, or API-driven automation.
• Knowledge of automated network slicing security policies and multi-tenancy isolation.
