Senior Design Manager

Responsibilities

• Lead all design and technical aspects of projects to ensure delivery on budget and programme
• Manage external consultants, design teams, and subcontractors throughout procurement and construction
• Ensure design compliance with regulations, safety standards, and company requirements
• Perform CDM Principal Designer and Building Regulations Principal Design roles
• Review technical specifications, bids, and design information for compliance and buildability
• Manage project-specific design programmes, scoping, and procurement of designers
• Coordinate technical workshops and design team meetings to ensure multidisciplinary coordination (fire safety, structures, M&E, etc.)
• Monitor subcontractor design approvals and manage the flow of information to commercial and operations teams
• Oversee document control, RFI responses, and the collation of handover information including O&M manuals
• Conduct site visits and monitor work executed on-site to ensure compliance with design specifications

Requirements

• Proven track record managing design and technical processes for residential buildings
• High-rise development experience
• Strong understanding of the Building Safety Act and Building Regulations
• Ability to lead, coordinate, and manage direct reports and external consultants
• Strong technical knowledge to assess and challenge design work compliance
• Experience in designer scoping and managing design programmes
• Valid driving licence
• Analytical approach with high attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications

• Architectural qualification (Minimum Level 4/HNC/NVQ4 or equivalent)
• Experience with CAD (AutoCAD or Revit) and BIM knowledge
• Knowledge of PAS9980 fire risk assessments, EWS1s, and FRAEW
• Membership of a professional body such as CIOB, CIAT, or RICS
• Knowledge of temporary works and utility application processes
