Senior Design Manager

Responsibilities

• Lead technical and design processes, design teams, and subcontractors throughout design, procurement, and construction
• Ensure design coordination complies with company requirements, regulations, and safety standards
• Manage external consultants, including fee monitoring, invoicing, and day-to-day coordination
• Fulfil CDM Principal Designer and Building Regulations Principal Design roles
• Review and interrogate consultant and subcontractor designs for compliance, buildability, and risk elimination
• Manage the project-specific design programme and provide regular progress reporting
• Coordinate technical workshops, package reviews, and design team meetings
• Oversee document control, information flow, and change control processes
• Conduct site visits and attend project meetings to monitor work execution against design specifications
• Oversee the collation of handover information, including H&S files and O&M manuals

Requirements

• Proven track record managing design and technical processes for residential buildings
• High rise development experience
• Strong understanding of the Building Safety Act and Building Regulations
• Ability to review drawings and identify buildability and technical issues
• Experience in designer scoping and managing design programmes
• Leadership skills with experience in people management and delegating tasks
• Valid driving licence
• Strong technical knowledge to assess and monitor design work compliance

Preferred Qualifications

• Architectural qualification (Minimum Level 4 HNC/NVQ4 or equivalent)
• Experience with CAD (AutoCAD or Revit)
• Knowledge of BIM
• Knowledge of PAS9980 fire risk assessments, EWS1s, and FRAEW
• Membership of a professional body such as CIOB, CIAT, or RICS
• Temporary works knowledge and experience
