Senior Design Engineer

Responsibilities

• Act as the technical lead on assigned Overhead Transmission Line (OHL) projects, ensuring solutions are safe, robust, and cost-effective.
• Manage the design process by assembling and leading teams to ensure effective project delivery.
• Oversee OHL design packages across concept, feasibility, and detailed design phases.
• Supervise detailed analyses and technical reviews using PLS-CADD and PLS-TOWER software.
• Lead technical peer reviews, quality checks, and design audits to maintain high engineering standards.
• Support the development of junior engineers through guidance, feedback, and technical training.
• Maintain project controls, including change registers and monitoring project management instructions.
• Provide technical support to other business units, such as Substations and Underground Cables.

Requirements

• Degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Structural Engineering (MSc/MEng is advantageous).
• 5+ years of experience in OHL Design.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, or actively working towards chartership.
• Advanced proficiency in PLS CADD and PLS TOWER.
• Proven experience in technical leadership and mentoring engineering teams.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for conveying complex technical concepts.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working on National Grid (NG) or Scottish and Southern Energy Networks (SSEN) projects.
• Knowledge of AutoCAD and MS Project.
• Experience in multidisciplinary project environments within the energy transmission or infrastructure sectors.
• Membership of professional institutions such as IET, CIGRÉ, or IEEE.
