Senior Database Engineer

Responsibilities

• Act as the senior technical authority for Oracle and SQL Server environments across on-prem, cloud, and retail sites.
• Lead the design, engineering, and delivery of major database projects including upgrades, migrations, and cloud integration.
• Own database architecture standards, patterns, and lifecycle roadmaps.
• Provide governance and oversight of BAU operations delivered by managed service partners to ensure service quality and SLAs.
• Serve as the escalation expert for complex incidents, driving root cause analysis and long-term fixes.
• Partner with Cloud, Infrastructure, Security, and Application teams to drive modernization and transformation initiatives.
• Oversee vendor management and commercial governance for database managed services.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in Database Administration in senior or lead roles.
• Significant enterprise-level experience administering Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server across production and DR environments.
• Tertiary qualification in IT or Computer Science.
• Expertise in database architecture, performance tuning, and HA/DR solutions (e.g., RMAN, Data Guard).
• Knowledge of Azure and hybrid cloud environments.
• Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform preferred).
• Familiarity with Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions for automated deployment pipelines.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with JD Edwards on Oracle/Azure.
• Oracle or SQL Server certifications.
• Experience working within the retail or regulated sectors.
