Senior Database Engineer

Responsibilities

• Design, automate, and optimize database operations across a cloud-native automotive retail platform.
• Debug and prevent concurrency issues such as deadlocks, lock escalation, and long-running transactions.
• Manage database internals including B-tree/LSM trade-offs, MVCC behavior, journaling, and compaction.
• Implement reliability practices, including incident response, postmortems, and automated remediation.
• Develop robust Python tooling for automated health checks, failover verification, and performance diagnostics.
• Guide data modeling decisions across SQL and NoSQL systems, focusing on normalization, indexing, and throughput.
• Partner with application teams to design safe data access patterns and operational standards.

Requirements

• 4+ years of engineering experience in a relevant role.
• Strong foundation in distributed systems (CAP theorem, consensus, replication, and failure handling).
• Deep understanding of transaction semantics, isolation levels, MVCC, and locking mechanisms.
• Strong Python skills for building production-grade automation and diagnostics tooling.
• Hands-on experience operating and tuning MongoDB and at least one SQL system (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, MariaDB).
• Proficiency with Linux and experience working with metrics, logs, and traces for performance analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with multi-region data architectures and cross-region failover strategies.
• Familiarity with AWS and MongoDB Atlas.
• Understanding of networking concepts such as VPC, subnets, and security groups.
• Experience with Kubernetes or building self-serve database operations platforms.
