Senior Data Specialist

Responsibilities

• Design, maintain, and govern enterprise data models to ensure accuracy and consistency across systems
• Develop and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines to integrate data from multiple sources
• Create analytical datasets to support dashboards, reporting tools, and data products
• Write, review, and optimize complex SQL queries and transformation logic
• Translate business requirements into technical data solutions and collaborate with cross-functional teams
• Conduct data validation and QA/QC activities to identify process improvement opportunities

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in data science, computer science, information systems, or a related discipline
• 5+ years of relevant professional experience
• Proficiency in SQL and relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, PostgreSQL)
• Hands-on experience developing or supporting ETL/ELT workflows
• Working knowledge of Python or R for data processing
• Experience preparing datasets for reporting using Power BI or Tableau
• Exposure to cloud data environments such as Azure, AWS, or Snowflake
• Ability to design user-focused dashboards and develop semantic data models using Power Query and DAX

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with environmental data or environmental information systems
• Advanced SQL expertise, including performance tuning and stored procedures
• Advanced proficiency in DAX and Power BI optimization
• Experience with data cataloging, governance tools, and DevOps/CI/CD workflows
• Experience mentoring junior staff and leading technical solution design
