Senior Data Scientist - Trading

Responsibilities

• Research, develop, and productionise algorithms and models to optimise financial returns from trading residential battery portfolio flexibility
• Drive the delivery of complex trading strategy projects from research to production deployment and monitoring
• Contribute to the technical vision for how Flexa trades flexibility across energy markets and hardware assets
• Identify new market opportunities and residential flexibility value to shape the data science roadmap
• Champion engineering rigor and ML best practices to foster an open, data-driven engineering culture
• Implement, deliver, and monitor well-engineered, data-driven solutions in real-time production systems
• Guide and develop junior colleagues through design reviews, code reviews, and structured feedback

Requirements

• University degree in a quantitative discipline (Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, or related)
• 5+ years of applied data science experience, specifically developing trading algorithms in energy or financial sectors
• Deep understanding of trading mechanics, including price formation, market microstructure, and risk
• Strong knowledge of probability and statistics, including time-series data processing and forecasting
• Proficiency in Python and software engineering practices (testing, CI/CD, monitoring, and modular design)
• Excellent English communication skills and a cross-functional collaboration mindset

Preferred Qualifications

• Direct experience with energy trading, particularly for battery storage systems
• Expertise in designing algorithmic trading strategies and modelling market impact in intraday markets
• Background in forecasting intraday price movements and modelling order book dynamics
• Experience with both Machine Learning and mathematical optimization development
• Proven track record of deploying models into production on AWS or similar cloud environments
