Senior Data Platform Engineer

Responsibilities

• Build, maintain, and modernize the data infrastructure that Medium's product and engineering teams depend on
• Own reliability of data infrastructure through risk identification and improved observability
• Partner with engineers and stakeholders to design trusted data systems
• Contribute to the long-term platform roadmap and migration of legacy systems
• Write and review Python-based tooling for orchestration, data quality, and automation
• Apply DevOps and SRE best practices regarding uptime, monitoring, and deployment
• Mentor teammates and improve shared standards for reliability and documentation

Requirements

• 4–6 years of experience in data engineering, backend engineering, DevOps, or SRE
• Proficiency in Python
• Experience with data pipeline tooling (Snowflake, dbt, Spark, or similar)
• Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS)
• Experience with backend services
• Ability to work across the stack and learn new technologies quickly

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Kubernetes
• Experience with data observability tooling or ML infrastructure
• Experience using AI to improve team leverage and output
• Experience owning product or platform direction without a dedicated PM
