About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide legal analysis and guidance to City Hall staff to advance mayoral initiatives
- Handle legal matters including legislation, ethics, litigation strategy, investigations, and contract drafting
- Analyze potential conflicts and ethics questions, including gift and travel requests
- Draft and review contracts, releases, licenses, and other agreements
- Work on transparency projects including lobbyist reporting and Freedom of Information Law compliance
- Advise agencies reporting to the Chief Counsel
- Supervise and mentor attorneys and other professionals on the team
Requirements
- Admission to the New York State Bar
- 6+ years of relevant legal experience (civil rights, criminal defense, government service, private practice, or prosecutorial experience)
- Experience in an administrative, managerial, or executive capacity or performing highly complex legal work
- Ability to manage a large portfolio of work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong analytical, communication, and practical judgment skills
