About the role

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal analysis and guidance to City Hall staff to advance mayoral initiatives
  • Handle legal matters including legislation, ethics, litigation strategy, investigations, and contract drafting
  • Analyze potential conflicts and ethics questions, including gift and travel requests
  • Draft and review contracts, releases, licenses, and other agreements
  • Work on transparency projects including lobbyist reporting and Freedom of Information Law compliance
  • Advise agencies reporting to the Chief Counsel
  • Supervise and mentor attorneys and other professionals on the team

Requirements

  • Admission to the New York State Bar
  • 6+ years of relevant legal experience (civil rights, criminal defense, government service, private practice, or prosecutorial experience)
  • Experience in an administrative, managerial, or executive capacity or performing highly complex legal work
  • Ability to manage a large portfolio of work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong analytical, communication, and practical judgment skills
