Senior Counsel

Responsibilities

• Provide and manage legal and regulatory advice on Capital Markets products, initiatives, and strategies
• Make recommendations to senior leaders on strategy and new initiatives based on business understanding
• Act as the primary subject matter expert for internal and external stakeholders
• Exercise judgment on complex, confidential, and sensitive legal matters
• Identify risks and implement appropriate actions to mitigate them
• Deliver legal advice, instruct external counsel, and ensure compliance with internal policies
• Negotiate resolutions to complex issues and determine root causes

Requirements

• Typically 7 years of legal practice or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Degree in law (LLB or JD) and a license to practice law in a relevant jurisdiction
• Strong knowledge of the financial services industry and its regulatory environment
• In-depth negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Expert verbal and written communication skills
• Proven ability to manage ambiguity and drive data-driven decision-making
• Experience in securities law, broker/dealer regulation, or investment fund regulation is an asset
