About the role
About the Company
Radiant is an El Segundo, CA-based startup building the world’s first mass-produced, portable nuclear microreactors. The company’s first reactor, Kaleidos, is a 1-megawatt, fail-safe microreactor designed to provide critical power to hospitals, data centers, and remote sites.
Responsibilities
- Serve as Responsible Engineer with full technical ownership of Kaleidos control systems
- Design and implement subsystem control architectures for reactor reactivity, power conversion, and grid interface
- Develop control algorithms, embedded software, and analytic models
- Perform system-level modeling and analysis of coupled linear and nonlinear dynamics
- Lead control system prototyping, simulation, hardware testing, and validation
- Author technical documentation and support regulatory review and licensing
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, nuclear, and software engineering teams
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Nuclear Engineering, or related field
- 5+ years of experience in dynamic system modeling and control algorithm development
- 5+ years of experience designing and calibrating controllers for linear and nonlinear dynamic systems
- Deep expertise in classical control theory (Stability analysis, PID, Sliding mode, Multivariable control)
- Hands-on experience with observers and estimators for stochastic and nonlinear systems
- Expertise in Monte Carlo analysis and uncertainty quantification
- Familiarity with industrial protocols like EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT, CANOpen, and RS-422/485
- Ability to work 100% onsite in El Segundo, CA
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD in a relevant engineering or physics discipline
- 7+ years of experience in control systems engineering
- Experience with motor controls, battery controls, and power electronics
- Experience with autonomous system diagnostics (FDIR)
- Experience with permanent magnet synchronous motor control (FOC, VSM)
- Experience with turbomachinery or microgrid control
