Senior Controls Engineer

Responsibilities

• Analyze customer RFQs and define technical requirements for control system modifications and upgrades.
• Develop technical concepts, system architectures, and proposal documentation for controls and electrical solutions.
• Prepare bespoke technical proposals and cost estimations to support tendering activities.
• Proactively identify product obsolescence and develop suitable upgrade solutions.
• Execute retrofit upgrade projects and identify replacement parts for legacy systems.
• Support new product design, testing, and validation through Research & Development activities.
• Investigate faults, define engineering solutions, and perform fleet impact analysis.
• Collaborate with sales, project management, and execution teams to ensure smooth project handovers.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the overall capability development of the team.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Controls, Instrumentation, or a related engineering discipline.
• 10+ years of experience in control systems design and engineering, ideally within power generation or turbomachinery.
• Extensive experience with Rockwell Automation (ControlLogix, Studio 5000) or Siemens hardware and software (S7, PCS7, TIA Portal).
• Strong knowledge of industrial communication networks such as Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, or ControlNet.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and engineering design systems.
• Solid understanding of electrical engineering principles, including low voltage distribution and motor control systems.
• Ability to conduct technical risk assessments and ensure compliance with industry safety standards.

Preferred Qualifications

• Understanding of North American hazardous area standards.
• Knowledge of functional safety standards (IEC 61508/IEC 61511) and industrial cybersecurity (IEC 62443).
• Experience in a global, collaborative engineering environment.
