Senior Contracts Officer

Responsibilities

• Independently manage various agreement types from initiation to completion, ensuring timely and thorough execution.
• Review agreements for compliance with applicable laws, federal guidelines, University statutes, and Office of General Counsel policies.
• Redline necessary changes to agreements and negotiate mutually acceptable terms with outside legal counsel or technology transfer officers.
• Partner with Licensing Officers and University scientists to ensure agreement terms align with research goals and technology portfolios.
• Coordinate the signature process between the University and external parties.
• Maintain detailed records of negotiation progress and provide consistent follow-up communication to all stakeholders.
• Assist the team in tracking assignments and agreement throughput to ensure efficient processing.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
• At least five years of experience in university contract management, a law firm, or an in-house legal department.
• Proficiency with scientific concepts and terminology.
• Strong analytical, reading, and organizational abilities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proven negotiation skills and the ability to exercise mature judgment.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Preferred Qualifications

• Law degree (JD).
• Significant experience working with contracts in medical or scientific fields.
• Familiarity with intellectual property concepts and federal regulations.
• Knowledge of NIH guidelines pertaining to university technology transfer.
