Senior Claims Specialist

Responsibilities

• Handle non-tort claims against the City of New York, including complex legal and factual situations
• Conduct full investigations of assigned claims by reviewing agency records and databases
• Analyze liability and damages to prepare objective claim evaluations
• Make recommendations regarding the settlement or disallowance of assigned claims
• Prepare detailed written settlement recommendations
• Manage special education claims, including those involving administrative appeals
• Maintain accurate claim files, investigative materials, and communications
• Communicate professionally with City agencies, attorneys, and pro se claimants

Requirements

• Must be a current City of New York employee serving in a permanent Civil Service title of Claims Specialist
• Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university; OR
• Associate degree and two years of full-time experience investigating/settling personal injury or property damage claims; OR
• High school diploma and four years of full-time experience investigating/settling personal injury or property damage claims
