Senior Backend Platform Engineer

Responsibilities

• Ship production Rails services and design APIs for other teams
• Own the data layer end to end
• Extend workflows, conventions, and guardrails for QEs, PMs, and analysts
• Develop shared AI conventions for backend code generation and schema changes
• Build and maintain a backend skills library encoding Rails patterns and domain models
• Manage AI-agent backend infrastructure including runtimes, tool-calling layers, and retrieval pipelines
• Maintain a feedback loop with engineers, QEs, and PMs to improve the platform

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• 5+ years of backend engineering experience on production systems
• Strong production Rails experience
• Fluency with PostgreSQL or MySQL including query optimization
• Experience designing and maintaining RESTful APIs
• Daily fluency with AI-assisted coding tools like Claude Code or Cursor

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands-on AI/LLM backend work (retrieval pipelines, agent runtimes, evals)
• Background in developer experience or platform engineering
• Cloud experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP
• Serious testing discipline using RSpec or Capybara
