Senior Backend Engineer

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering work in expertise areas and share knowledge with team members
• Set up best engineering practices and control code quality through reviews
• Design and implement large-scale, highly available backend systems for millions of concurrent players
• Embrace modern container and cluster management technology for an elastic backend stack
• Maintain an agile and reliable development environment for social experiments and rapid onboarding
• Monitor backend health and respond to failures to ensure a smooth player experience
• Improve dev-ops tools to increase automation and error-proofing

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in backend development and production deployment
• Thorough understanding of scalable and highly available backend systems
• Familiarity with open-source distributed system tech stacks (databases, caching, distributed transactions)
• Proficiency in Linux ecosystem, bash CLI tools, and Python scripting
• Deep knowledge of at least one: Go, Erlang, or C++
• Deep knowledge of at least one SQL and one NoSQL database
• Deep knowledge of at least one distributed message queue system
• Experience building systems involving eventually or strongly consistent distributed transactions
• Proficiency in English for technical documentation, written chat, and professional spoken communication

Preferred Qualifications

• Deep understanding of Go and tracking language trends
• Experience managing production environments on AWS or GCP
• Experience deploying services in Kubernetes with CI/CD tools
• Experience in schema design and performance tuning for MongoDB, PostgreSQL, or Redis
• Experience with NATS and Kafka development
