Senior Backend Engineer

Responsibilities

• Design and implement core backend systems for growth features supporting hundreds of thousands of weekly users.
• Integrate with third-party financial service providers and internal services to build robust APIs and data pipelines.
• Level up the product experience throughout the user lifecycle, from onboarding to account management.
• Experiment and iterate on new user offerings to improve retention and user value.
• Enhance system observability and reliability by introducing monitoring, alerting, and fault tolerance.
• Contribute to user-facing experiences tied to core subscription payments, checkout, and repayment flows.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience with modern backend frameworks and building production systems.
• Strong systems design skills with experience architecting distributed systems that handle high throughput.
• Proven track record of making infrastructure decisions that balance technical excellence with business pragmatism.
• Production experience with background job processing systems such as Sidekiq or Resque.
• Solid understanding of database optimization, caching strategies, and performance tuning.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with payment systems, financial infrastructure, or regulated environments (ACH, card processing).
• Background in fintech, payments, or lending infrastructure.
• Ability to own complex technical initiatives end-to-end, from design through implementation.
• Experience mentoring team members through code reviews and technical guidance.
