Senior Azure Database Performance Engineer

Responsibilities

• Ensure the availability and optimization of MSSQL (2016-2022) in Hosted and IaaS SQL VM environments within Azure.
• Monitor performance on application databases and queries, suggesting and applying continuous tuning.
• Identify performance bottlenecks and perform query tuning for Azure SQL Database and Managed Instance.
• Collaborate with application teams and stakeholders to identify and resolve MSSQL-related issues.
• Maintain technical standards for database performance, high availability, replication, scalability, and security.
• Conduct design and code reviews to ensure adherence to integrity, security, and performance standards.
• Assist in resolving priority incidents, participating in root-cause analysis, and implementing preventative actions.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• 8+ years of experience working with large MS SQL Server (2016, 2017, 2019, 2022) databases in a 24x7x365 production environment.
• 8+ years of hands-on experience operating MS SQL servers and related technologies in Azure.
• Deep expertise in performance tuning using tools such as SolarWinds, Query Store, and Extended Events.
• Strong understanding of database encryption, high availability, disaster recovery, replication, and backup/restore processes.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong sense of issue ownership.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Snowflake databases.
• Relevant Azure certifications (e.g., DP-300, DP-900, AZ-900).
• Understanding of ITIL concepts.
