About the role
Responsibilities
- Design and develop flight-critical electromechanical systems including actuators, deployment mechanisms, separation systems, valves, sensors, and thermal control devices
- Lead mechanical design and packaging of avionics enclosures, sensor mounting systems, and harnessing routes
- Perform detailed structural, thermal, and electromagnetic analysis using FEA and analytical methods
- Develop and execute comprehensive test campaigns including functional, environmental, and life cycle testing
- Create detailed engineering drawings, assembly procedures, and interface control documents (ICDs)
- Work hands-on with fabrication, assembly, and integration teams to build and troubleshoot hardware
- Collaborate with electrical engineers to optimize PCB layouts, connector selections, and cable routing
- Coordinate with suppliers and vendors for custom component procurement
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline
- 5+ years of professional experience designing and testing electromechanical systems for aerospace or defense
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software (NX, CATIA, SolidWorks, or similar)
- Hands-on experience with structural and thermal analysis using FEA tools (Ansys, Abaqus, NASTRAN)
- Experience designing for harsh environments including vacuum, extreme temperatures, vibration, and shock
- Deep understanding of mechanisms, actuators, fasteners, bearings, seals, and material properties
- Working knowledge of electrical systems including power distribution and motor control
- Proficiency in creating detailed engineering drawings with GD&T
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with spacecraft mechanisms such as deployment systems or solar array drives
- Knowledge of spacecraft thermal control systems including heat pipes and radiators
- Background in high-reliability or safety-critical system design (FMEA, fault tolerance)
- Proficiency with scripting languages like Python or MATLAB
- Experience with additive manufacturing for aerospace applications
- Prior work in fast-paced startup environments
