Responsibilities

• Partner closely with program staff to act as counsel on grantmaking activities
• Conduct legal research on rules applying to the Foundation’s programmatic work
• Work with outside counsel and grants management to review grantee documents for tax status and compliance
• Participate in program team meetings and convenings
• Develop and implement practical policies and procedures
• Provide support to the Senior Vice President & General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel

Requirements

• Law degree (J.D.) from an accredited law school
• Minimum of 5 years of legal experience in government, nonprofits, foundations, or specialized law firms
• Admitted to practice in New York State
• Understanding of nonprofit advocacy and social justice movement challenges
• Experience adapting complex legal advice into practical guidance
• Strong critical thinking and project management skills
• Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information
