Senior API Engineer

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and document new and enhanced APIs for the Subway middleware platform to support internal and external connectivity.
• Build and maintain integrations with third-party delivery and marketplace partners like DoorDash and Uber Eats.
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot and Claude as a core part of daily engineering workflows.
• Collaborate with product and architecture teams to translate business requirements into scalable, maintainable technical implementations.
• Conduct constructive code reviews and provide technical design guidance to peers and junior engineers.
• Enforce data governance, security policies, and compliance standards throughout the software development lifecycle.

Requirements

• 5+ years of hands-on production software development experience.
• Demonstrated experience building and operating RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs at scale.
• Strong proficiency in Node.js (JavaScript/TypeScript), Java, or C#.
• Experience with AWS serverless architectures, including Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, and SQS/SNS.
• Solid understanding of event-driven architecture, webhooks, async messaging, and pub/sub patterns.
• Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines and source control workflows (Git, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps).
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).

• Experience integrating with complex third-party platforms and vendor APIs.
• Proficiency with AI-assisted development tools to increase engineering velocity.
• Strong debugging, root-cause analysis, and production incident management skills.
