About the role
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and document new and enhanced APIs for the Subway middleware platform to support internal and external connectivity.
- Build and maintain integrations with third-party delivery and marketplace partners like DoorDash and Uber Eats.
- Leverage AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot and Claude as a core part of daily engineering workflows.
- Collaborate with product and architecture teams to translate business requirements into scalable, maintainable technical implementations.
- Conduct constructive code reviews and provide technical design guidance to peers and junior engineers.
- Enforce data governance, security policies, and compliance standards throughout the software development lifecycle.
Requirements
- 5+ years of hands-on production software development experience.
- Demonstrated experience building and operating RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs at scale.
- Strong proficiency in Node.js (JavaScript/TypeScript), Java, or C#.
- Experience with AWS serverless architectures, including Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, and SQS/SNS.
- Solid understanding of event-driven architecture, webhooks, async messaging, and pub/sub patterns.
- Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines and source control workflows (Git, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps).
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience integrating with complex third-party platforms and vendor APIs.
- Proficiency with AI-assisted development tools to increase engineering velocity.
- Strong debugging, root-cause analysis, and production incident management skills.
