Senior Animation Artist

Responsibilities

• Deliver polished animation work for creatures, characters, and objects
• Apply animation principles including timing, weight, arcs, and posing
• Interpret creative direction and reference materials to build expressive performances
• Propose original motion choices to enhance storytelling
• Ensure animation is clean, functional, and export-ready for downstream departments
• Troubleshoot rigging or scene-related issues
• Maintain technical standards, naming conventions, and file structures
• Communicate realistic time estimates and flag roadblocks proactively
• Participate in dailies and reviews

Requirements

• Minimum 6 years of experience in a VFX studio environment
• Strong proficiency in Maya
• Solid understanding of body mechanics and facial animation
• Ability to animate from reference and build compelling acting performances
• High attention to detail and ability to manage deadlines
• Must be based in the Province of Quebec
• Must be legally authorized to work in Canada

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with ShotGrid or other production tracking tools
• Knowledge of rigging fundamentals or custom tool development
