About the role
Responsibilities
- Develop and present differentiated trade ideas by connecting Canadian crude fundamentals with proprietary insights and advanced analytics
- Produce short and long-term market outlooks on Canadian crude fundamentals and price differentials to inform trading decisions
- Perform economic analysis of crude movements, quality adjustments, blending economics, and transportation options (pipeline, rail, marine)
- Support physical and derivatives crude trading through analysis of instruments linked to Canadian crude benchmarks
- Track and analyze crude production trends, refinery demand, inventory levels, and cross-border trade flows
- Monitor infrastructure constraints including pipeline, rail, storage, and terminal capacity
- Collaborate with traders, schedulers, operations, and risk teams to support trade execution and value generation
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, economics, mathematics, finance, business, or a related quantitative discipline
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in market analysis, preferably within crude oil trading or energy-focused institutions
- Strong experience with physical and paper crude oil markets
- Solid understanding of crude quality differentials, blending economics, and transportation economics
- Knowledge of derivatives, risk evaluation, and hedging techniques
- Technical proficiency in Python, R, SQL, and Tableau
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct exposure to Canadian crude benchmarks such as WCS, MSW, Edmonton Par, or Cold Lake
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex numerical analysis into actionable trade recommendations
