Senior AI Platform Engineer

Afresh is using AI to tackle the #1 solution to curb climate change: reducing food waste. By building AI specifically for the intricacies of grocery, we help grocers minimize waste and maximize sales. Our platform orchestrates billions of decisions and has prevented over 200 million pounds of food waste last year alone.

Responsibilities

• Design and operate the knowledge graph and ontology that capture how grocery data relates
• Build retrieval systems (vector, graph, and structured) to feed context to models
• Build LLM-powered agents including tool-use, multi-step reasoning, and orchestration
• Develop the serving infrastructure to run agents reliably and cost-effectively
• Stand up evaluation sets, LLM-as-judge harnesses, tracing, and observability
• Build pipelines and data products on Databricks/MLflow to move work from prototype to production

Requirements

• 3+ years building production software, data, or ML systems
• Strong systems and API design skills using Python
• Hands-on production experience with LLM systems (RAG, agents, tool-use, prompt engineering)
• Experience with evaluation metrics for LLMs
• Solid data-engineering foundations including pipelines and data modeling
• Proficiency with modern cloud data stacks (Databricks/Spark, MLflow, cloud warehouses)

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with knowledge graphs, ontologies, or graph databases
• Experience with vector stores like pgvector, Pinecone, or Weaviate
• Familiarity with agent frameworks like LangGraph or MCP protocols
• Experience with MLOps and model serving at scale
• Background in grocery, retail, or complex enterprise data domains
