About the role
Responsibilities
- Lead the architecture, design, development, and deployment of GenAI-enabled applications and services
- Design scalable, secure AI solutions across cloud and on-premises Kubernetes-based environments
- Evaluate technical architectures for retrieval-grounded GenAI, semantic search, and LLM workflows
- Develop backend services, APIs, and orchestration layers to integrate AI with operational data sources
- Drive engineering approaches for prompt design, grounding strategies, and observability
- Partner with domain experts and infrastructure teams to translate needs into production-ready solutions
- Provide technical leadership and strategic direction for departmental GenAI architecture
Requirements
- Ability to obtain and maintain a US DOE Q-level security clearance (requires U.S. Citizenship)
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent experience
- Significant experience architecting and deploying complex software systems and GenAI/LLM applications
- Advanced experience with containerized or Kubernetes-based platforms
- Proficiency in Python, Java, JavaScript, or TypeScript for backend development and RESTful APIs
- Advanced knowledge of GenAI design patterns including prompt engineering and retrieval strategies
- Strong technical leadership and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a computer or engineering field with an emphasis on ML or AI
- Experience with open-source AI frameworks and model-serving platforms
- Experience with vector-based search technologies
- Experience designing agentic integration patterns or MCP-enabled services
- Experience establishing AI engineering practices including CI/CD and observability
