Senior Accountant

Responsibilities

• Maintain the College’s general ledger and accounting records, ensuring accuracy and completeness of all financial transactions.
• Prepare journal entries for month-end and year-end close processes and verify departmental entries.
• Reconcile bank statements, outstanding checks, and general ledger accounts on a monthly basis.
• Process invoices for payment via check, ACH, wire, or credit card and resolve vendor disputes.
• Manage fixed asset software, including capitalization and depreciation of assets.
• Assist with the preparation of annual tax-exempt returns, Form 990, and Form 990-T.
• Prepare schedules and financial reports to support independent auditors and annual financial statement audits.
• Monitor prepaid expenses, accruals, and endowed funds on a monthly basis.
• Support the coordination of annual budget requests and upload final budgets to accounting software.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent experience.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Access and Powersoft InfoMaker.
• Excellent organizational, time management, and attention to detail skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in Not-for-Profit or Higher Education accounting.
• Working knowledge of financial issues pertinent to higher education institutions.
