Senior Academic Advisor

Responsibilities

• Advise assigned students in the Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing (MNSON) on academic planning, degree requirements, and career integration.
• Support specialized populations, including transfer students, through onboarding and orientation initiatives.
• Develop and maintain a deep understanding of MNSON curriculum, University Core requirements, and program tracks.
• Conduct individual and group advising sessions to help students achieve academic, career, and life goals.
• Prepare and review graduation audits and assist with the evaluation of transfer credits and external coursework.
• Monitor student progress, provide guidance to students on probation, and lead the academic actions process.
• Collaborate with department chairs, faculty, and administrative staff to ensure consistent communication of program requirements.
• Assist in the planning and execution of school events such as Orientation, Open House, and Commencement.
• Mentor and train new student affairs staff, including academic advisors and project coordinators.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Counseling, Higher Education, Student Affairs, or a related field.
• At least four years of internal academic advising experience.
• Experience in transfer-student support and orientation within a four-year institution.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to provide empathetic, student-centered service.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative advising team.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with student information systems and articulation resources.
• Experience with data management and the ability to produce academic reports.
