Security Officer

Responsibilities

• Provide a safe and secure environment for the university community and visitors by enforcing university policies and local, state, and federal laws
• Patrol campus grounds on foot, by bicycle, or by vehicle while in authorized uniform
• Respond to emergencies, provide assistance, and summon appropriate emergency services as required
• Investigate and report suspicious activity and conduct preliminary investigations of incidents
• Submit detailed written reports regarding incidents and security findings
• Provide money and safety escorts for the university community upon request
• Secure and unlock buildings and assist faculty, staff, and students with authorized access to facilities
• Assist with crowd and traffic control during special events, athletic games, and concerts
• Respond to life-safety device alarms, including fire and smoke sensors, and report any system defects

Requirements

• High School Diploma required; Associate's Degree preferred
• 1-2 years of law enforcement experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Valid driver’s license with a demonstrated safe driving history
• Ability to meet all requirements of the New York State Security Guard Act of 1992
• Physical ability to perform patrols over considerable distances, including climbing multiple flights of stairs daily
• Physical ability to respond to emergency conditions, including lifting heavy objects

Preferred Qualifications

• Current CPR certification
• NYS Security Guard License or NYS 8-hour Pre-Assignment Security Guard certification
