Security Officer

Responsibilities

• Provide high visibility and proactive engagement to enhance community safety and security
• Perform access control at VCU residence halls
• Act as the first point of contact for students, faculty, visitors, and the public
• Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Post Orders
• Monitor and respond to dangerous or urgent situations
• Report important visual details to management, police, or first responders

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Authorized to work in the U.S.
• Ability to pass extensive background checks (VA State Police & FBI fingerprints)
• Ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, bend, squat, push, and pull frequently
• Ability to lift up to 20 pounds
• Proficiency in basic technology (email, scheduling software, Zoom, MS Teams)
• Reliable transportation and punctuality
• Ability to work the 3rd shift (overnight) schedule

Preferred Qualifications

• Successful completion of required DCJS training course
• Ability to interact cordially with a diverse community
