Security Manager

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for the museum's physical security program, protecting people, assets, and collections.
• Hire, train, and coach security personnel, managing schedules, performance, and professional development.
• Partner with visitor experience and education departments to create SOPs focused on cultural competency and empathetic de-escalation.
• Manage the daily operations of the Security Operations Center (SOC), including surveillance, alarms, and access control systems.
• Design and implement security matrices for museum events, facility rentals, and VIP visits.
• Collaborate with collections departments to enforce cultural property protection standards for artifacts.
• Maintain emergency response plans and execute regular building-wide drills for fire, weather, and active threat scenarios.
• Act as the primary liaison to local law enforcement and public safety agencies.
• Conduct routine security surveys to identify vulnerabilities and mitigate risks.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Emergency Management, Business Administration, Museum Studies, or a related field.
• 5+ years of progressive experience in security operations, emergency management, or law enforcement.
• 3+ years of direct supervisory experience.
• Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, and regulations.
• Current CPR, First-Aid, and AED certifications.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications

• Industry-recognized certifications such as PSP, CPP, CIPM, or CEM.
• Experience with emergency response utilizing the FEMA Incident Command System (ICS).
• OSHA 10-Hour or 30-Hour General Industry Certification.
• Fluency in languages other than English.
