About the role
Responsibilities
- Manage a team of approximately 40 personnel involved in mechanical system development
- Ensure functional areas follow established procedures and meet time, budget, and quality constraints
- Provide oversight, mentorship, and guidance to individual mechanical design task leads
- Conduct mechanical design reviews for cost, schedule, risk management, and deliverable adherence
- Perform failure investigations on mechanical systems as required
- Maintain technical, cost, and schedule risk management for all associated mechanical tasks
- Communicate design status and technical correctness to senior management
- Review and approve employee time cards, travel, and performance evaluations
- Develop and update Mechanical Design and Development processes
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering
- 10-15 years of related experience in mechanical design
- Proficiency with ASME Y14.5 Dimensioning and Tolerancing Standards
- Proficiency with ASME Y14.100 Engineering Drawing Practices Standards
- Experience with tolerance stackup analysis
- Proven project management experience
- US Citizenship required
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience with NASA/JSC mechanical flight hardware development
- BS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
- Experience using solid modeling CAD software such as PTC CREO or Pro/ENGINEER
- Familiarity with JSC Engineering Drawing System Manual (JPR 8500)
- Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) programs
- Knowledge of mechanical design for EMI/EMC, electrical bonding, or fluid/pressure systems
