Section Head

Responsibilities

• Oversee laboratory operations and manage teams of technicians and microbiologists to ensure accurate and efficient sample analysis.
• Monitor workloads, staffing levels, equipment, and consumable resources to meet analysis demands and turnaround times.
• Ensure strict adherence to quality, safety, and compliance procedures, including all required documentation.
• Manage day-to-day customer communications regarding sample analysis, queries, and delivery expectations.
• Lead the training and development of team members to ensure technical competence and performance.
• Monitor analytical results for compliance with Health & Safety, Quality, Regulatory, and Accreditation requirements.
• Support recruitment, performance management, and the promotion of a positive safety culture within the laboratory.

Requirements

• Degree in a biological science discipline or significant experience in a high-throughput laboratory environment.
• Strong technical knowledge and practical experience in food microbiology analysis.
• Proven experience leading, motivating, and developing laboratory teams.
• Sound understanding of laboratory quality systems, specifically ISO 9001 and ISO 17025.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workloads in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication skills for building relationships with colleagues and customers.
