About the role

Responsibilities

  • Conduct field inspections of building water supply and distribution systems including cooling towers, plumbing, and wastewater systems
  • Review water management plans, equipment operation records, and physical mechanical/chemical treatment equipment
  • Collect water samples and perform water quality analysis
  • Generate and submit field inspection reports and conduct follow-up compliance inspections
  • Provide recommendations to improve regulatory compliance and eliminate environmental health hazards
  • Prepare evidence for Office of Administrative Tribunal Hearings regarding violations and summonses
  • Assist with rapid response to Legionnaires' disease surveillance signals
  • Review process schematics, engineering plans, and drawings for water systems

Requirements

  • Master's degree in environmental/chemical engineering, limnology, environmental science, marine science, geology, biology, earth science, chemistry, physics, or health science; OR
  • Baccalaureate degree with 24 semester credits in relevant fields plus one year of experience in water quality planning, management, or research; OR
  • Associate degree with 24 semester credits in relevant fields plus three years of experience
  • Ability to travel throughout the five boroughs
  • Ability to climb ladders, work in tight spaces, and work at high altitudes (building roofs)
  • Ability to pass medical clearance and FIT testing for respirator use
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of hazard mitigation, risk assessment, or public health
  • Experience with data entry on portable devices (iPhone or Tablet)
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
