About the role

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team responsible for developing and realizing polymer components for the W93/Mk7 weapon system program.
  • Coordinate efforts with the W93 Systems Engineering Director and other Product Realization Teams (PRTs).
  • Collaborate with production agencies across the Nuclear Security Enterprise, including KCNSC.
  • Manage requirements, interfaces, testing, and status reporting to deliver Mark Quality designs.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior staff (Scientist 3 level).
  • Perform cross-cutting work across polymer PRTs and coordinate with Qualification, Test, and Evaluation (QTE) teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field (Master's degree preferred for Scientist 3).
  • 4+ years of related experience (6+ years for Scientist 3).
  • Proven experience in technical Research and Development (R&D).
  • Strong understanding of scientific integrity and safe practices for technical work.
  • US citizenship is required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Q Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with nuclear weapon system design, engineering, or development.
  • Degree in a chemical, polymer, or material-based field (e.g., Chemistry or Materials Science).
  • Knowledge of material interactions, specifically polymer aging and compatibility.
  • Proficiency in GD&T and the ability to interpret engineering drawings.
  • Experience with product realization from conceptual design through qualified production.
  • Familiarity with Defense Programs Business Process System (DPBPS).
