About the role
Responsibilities
- Partner with Research project teams to develop and implement new grain and oilseed processing technologies.
- Design and execute experiments for laboratory and piloting trials, including data collection and interpretation.
- Evaluate production processes to develop scale-down parameters and pilot testing methods to increase yield and capacity.
- Manage daily milling laboratory operations, including equipment maintenance, safety reviews, and supply procurement.
- Prepare mass balances, detailed technical reports, and comprehensive presentations for stakeholders.
- Collaborate with plant engineers and vendors to identify and mitigate scale-up risks.
- Provide technical support to existing facilities and mentor junior technical staff.
Requirements
- Degree in Chemical Engineering, Grain Science, Food Science, Milling Science, or a related field.
- 4+ years of laboratory or piloting/production experience at a technical level.
- Proficiency with analytical techniques such as HPLC, LC/MS, protein analyzers, and NIR.
- Strong understanding of unit operations in food processing or milling applications.
- Experience with statistical analysis using JMP software.
- Ability to work in industrial plant environments, including exposure to extreme temperatures and physical tasks like climbing stairs or ladders.
- Willingness to travel domestically as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in a relevant scientific field.
- Experience in cereal science, protein chemistry, or starch chemistry.
- Background in the analysis of biofuels, natural products, or industrial fermentations.
- Experience developing multivariate analysis models.
