About the role

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Research project teams to develop and implement new grain and oilseed processing technologies.
  • Design and execute experiments for laboratory and piloting trials, including data collection and interpretation.
  • Evaluate production processes to develop scale-down parameters and pilot testing methods to increase yield and capacity.
  • Manage daily milling laboratory operations, including equipment maintenance, safety reviews, and supply procurement.
  • Prepare mass balances, detailed technical reports, and comprehensive presentations for stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with plant engineers and vendors to identify and mitigate scale-up risks.
  • Provide technical support to existing facilities and mentor junior technical staff.

Requirements

  • Degree in Chemical Engineering, Grain Science, Food Science, Milling Science, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of laboratory or piloting/production experience at a technical level.
  • Proficiency with analytical techniques such as HPLC, LC/MS, protein analyzers, and NIR.
  • Strong understanding of unit operations in food processing or milling applications.
  • Experience with statistical analysis using JMP software.
  • Ability to work in industrial plant environments, including exposure to extreme temperatures and physical tasks like climbing stairs or ladders.
  • Willingness to travel domestically as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in a relevant scientific field.
  • Experience in cereal science, protein chemistry, or starch chemistry.
  • Background in the analysis of biofuels, natural products, or industrial fermentations.
  • Experience developing multivariate analysis models.
