About the role
Responsibilities
- Design high-precision space opto-mechanical telescopes and complex hardware, including machined components, composite structures, and deployable mechanisms.
- Lead technical team reviews and participate in technical review boards (PDR, CDR, and TIM).
- Interface with multi-disciplinary engineering teams (Structural, Thermal, Electrical, Manufacturing) and external suppliers to drive designs to closure.
- Perform design sensitivity, tolerance analysis, and establish key performance error budgets.
- Select specialized mechanism components such as motors, position sensors, bearings, and lubricants for spaceflight applications.
- Develop and perform testing to provide proof-of-concept and qualification for new designs.
- Support production operations through the design of tooling, test equipment, and shop aids.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline from an ABET-accredited program.
- Minimum of 12 years of relevant professional experience (or 10 years with a Graduate Degree).
- 7+ years of experience in CAD modeling and design tools.
- Proven experience with spaceflight mechanism applications.
- Proficiency in analysis methods, including FEA and hand-calculations.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI Security Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong proficiency in 3D modeling tools such as Creo, NX, Catia, or Solidworks.
- Experience with FEA tools like FEMAP, MSC Nastran, or ANSYS.
- Proficiency in tolerance stack-up analysis and GD&T.
- Experience with MATLAB for analysis automation and data processing.
- Familiarity with ISO 9000/AS-9100 Quality Management Systems and Lean Manufacturing.
- Experience in leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams through the full product lifecycle.
