About the role
Responsibilities
- Independently develop, validate, optimize, and execute analytical methods to support R&D, engineering, and operational needs
- Perform routine to complex sample analyses for metals in solids and solutions, ensuring data accuracy and reliability
- Apply advanced problem-solving techniques to assess unusual results and identify root causes
- Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and calibrate analytical instrumentation with minimal supervision
- Author and maintain SOPs, test methods, technical reports, and laboratory documentation
- Evaluate emerging analytical technologies and provide recommendations for laboratory equipment selection
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support project objectives and continuous improvement
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior scientists and laboratory personnel
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline
- 5+ years of related industry experience (excluding internships and co-ops)
- Extensive hands-on experience with ICP-OES, including method development and validation
- Experience operating and interpreting data from instruments such as ICP-MS, XRF, and XRD
- Strong experience with complex sample preparation techniques, including four-acid digestion and fusion methods
- Proven ability to work independently and manage assigned work through critical milestones
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline
- Broad experience across ICP-MS, ICP-OES, XRF, XRD, and LECO elemental analysis platforms
- Demonstrated creativity in applying analytical techniques to novel research questions
- Experience acting as a technical reference or mentor within a laboratory environment
