About the role

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute experimental activities to support pneumococcal conjugate vaccine programs
  • Optimize and troubleshoot multi-step syntheses of protein-polysaccharide conjugates
  • Purify polysaccharides and conjugates using methods such as dialysis, size-exclusion chromatography, and tangential flow filtration (TFF)
  • Analyze conjugates using various analytical methods and develop new laboratory workflows
  • Advise team members on experimental design, result interpretation, and troubleshooting
  • Serve as a subject matter expert during technical transfer to contract manufacturing organizations
  • Maintain highly organized records and contribute to the authorship of laboratory protocols and development reports

Requirements

  • PhD in chemistry, biochemistry, or related field with 2+ years of industry experience (or combination of industry and postdoctoral research)
  • MS with 7+ years of industry experience, or BS with 10+ years of industry experience
  • Strong biochemistry and organic chemistry knowledge base
  • Proven experience preparing bioconjugates
  • Proficiency in purification techniques, specifically tangential flow filtration (TFF)
  • Proficiency in analytical techniques including HPLC and SEC-MALS
  • Sufficient knowledge of analytical principles to develop fit-for-purpose methods
  • Ability to work onsite in San Carlos, CA

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Design of Experiments (DoE)
  • Experience with the chemical modification of polysaccharides
  • Experience implementing or using electronic laboratory notebooks
