Scientific Software Engineer

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain compiler components and APIs for atom shuttling and movement-aware compilation
• Implement and improve optimization methods relevant to shuttling workflows, including routing, scheduling, and planning heuristics
• Collaborate with scientists and hardware/control teams to translate experimental constraints into robust compiler abstractions
• Provide customer and collaborator support in Japan, including issue triage and bug fixes for the ABCIQ / AIST deployment
• Uphold strong engineering practices in public repositories, including code review, CI/testing, and API evolution

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Computer Science, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
• Strong software engineering skills in Python (type hints, testing, packaging, tooling)
• Experience with optimization, graph algorithms, routing/scheduling, or path planning
• Ability to collaborate effectively across software, physics, and hardware disciplines
• Fluency in both Japanese and English for technical communication
• Demonstrable experience contributing to open-source projects on GitHub

Preferred Qualifications

• Background in AMO physics or neutral-atom quantum computing concepts
• Experience with compiler infrastructure (IR design, SSA, LLVM/MLIR) or DSL/eDSL development
• Experience with Rust in addition to Python
• Familiarity with quantum error correction workflows and hardware/software co-design
