About the role

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive and routine maintenance on chemistry department instrumentation and equipment, including computer and software upgrades.
  • Execute timely repairs of laboratory equipment and coordinate with vendor service engineers as needed.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to troubleshoot instrument and equipment problems.
  • Assist in the evaluation, procurement, site preparation, and installation of new or upgraded laboratory instrumentation.
  • Manage inventory and logistics for compressed gases, cryogens, solvents, and other essential laboratory materials.
  • Maintain detailed historical logs of instrument maintenance, repair history, and vendor contact information.
  • Liaise with ITS to install and troubleshoot computers interfaced with scientific equipment.
  • Ensure adherence to university laboratory safety policies and coordinate with the Environmental Health and Safety Office.

Requirements

  • Previous experience with advanced scientific instrumentation and laboratory equipment.
  • Strong technical skills in the maintenance and repair of electronic and mechanical devices.
  • Proficiency in managing computer hardware and software interfaced with scientific instruments.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including maneuvering and lifting heavy objects.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety regulations and the ability to follow strict safety protocols.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s or doctoral degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or a related field of study.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field combined with equivalent professional work experience.
